In Genoa will be opened a submarine museum

At the beginning of 2010 in Genoa, one of the most beautiful cities of Ligurian Riviera, will be opened a new sea museum. The exhibits will be placed inside the S-518 Nazario Sauro submarine, which will essentially become the major museum exhibit. This will be the first water museum in Italy.

The submarine was built in the Italian town of Monfalcone (Friuli-Venezia Giulia region) and in 1976 was launched into the sea depths. It has a length of 64 meters and can reach the speed of up to 20 knots (37 km / h) under water and up to 12 knots (22 km / h) on the surface. The maximum diving depth of such a submarine is 300 meters.

The new exhibition will provide an opportunity to plunge into the atmosphere of the submariners and learn how the submarine is arranged, in which conditions work submariners during their voyages. The S-518 Nazario Sauro submarine was decommissioned from the Italian Navy and presented to the famous Galata sea museum in Genoa (Galata Museo del Mare), which was opened in Genoa in 2004. The Sea Museum in Genoa is the most ambitious one in the Mediterranean. In the world there are only three museums of the same scale as the Galata Museo del Mare: in Barcelona, London and Stockholm.
